Fellow TIPSters, A very odd thing happened to me today. Late this morning I received an automated message from the TIPS server saying that my request to unsubscribe from the list had been received and would be enacted if I mailed in a confirmation number that was contained in the message. The odd part was that I had never sent such as request. I assumed someone was playing a joke on me (or just irritated with me) and that the joke had been foiled by the security measure of the confirmation number. I deleted the message. A little while later, however, I received a message saying that the confirmation number had been received and that I had been unsubscribed from TIPS. This took me somewhat aback because it meant that whoever had sent in the "unsubscribe" request on my "behalf" had either arranged to have a copy of the confirmation number sent to him/her as well, or had gained access to my e-mail inbox. I any case, I wrote to the TIPS list owner, Bill Southerly. He restored my subscription and is looking into the matter. This may be a one time only thing, or it may be directed at me alone, but I would warn you to keep a careful watch of your "junk" mail for the next few days. It would be interesting to see if the same thing happens to someone else. Regards, --
