There's an excellent fictional treatment of this issue in a recent
film about desperate illegal immigrants in Britain. It's called
_Dirty Pretty Things_ and stars the wonderful French actress Audrey
Tatou. That's not just my opinion, BTW. It gets a 94% approval rating
from newspaper critics at the film rating site RottenTomatoes.com

(And if you can, you should catch her other film, a delightful
comedy called "Amelie", with an 88% approval rating from the
critics).
