I just ended an Intro class on Monday. I showed the 35-minute film of
"Killing Us Softly 3" (every class LOVES it!) and a short segment of the
Scientific American video with Alan Alda called "The Placebo Effect." I
cued the video to the segment - about 15 minutes - about two people with
depression who participated in an experiment examining anti-depression
medication vs. placebo. Both were given the placebo. One got better and one
got worse. It's a nice examination of the points we've been discussing on
TIPS lately: That the lines between "biological" and "psychological" are
becoming blurred.

Students were enthusiastic about both films and we had some good
discussions.
