Below is a copy of an overhead I use in my abnormal psychology class.  I think
people overuse the term confidentiality, which is a legal term with very precise
meanings.  Only a few selected professional and ministers have a legal right to
confidentiality so I prefer to make a personal appeal and avoid the use of the
term.



IV.  Personal Information
�This is not therapy but since this it is more about �us� than it is about
�them� sometimes personal information surfaces in class.
�I treat this a private, almost �sacred,� information that I�m privileged too
listen to; not privileged to share unless I directly ask permission.
�I request that each of you make a personal commitment to do the same.
�A 2nd request is when someone says something in class that resonates with you
please share that with the person.
�The best form is �I felt something like you described when I ��
�This can be done in class or after; in person or by email etc.
