Of course, what always seems to be missing from these summary data is an
indication of dispersion. Anybody want to hazard a guess on what Dr.
Phil took in last year? My suspicion (unencumbered with facts) is that
salaries in Psychology are highly skewed. If the underlying
distributions are not normal then "average" salary may not mean very
much depending on how the "average" was calculated.
