Hi, I've actually
never had the serial-position effect not work for me, but maybe I've just been
lucky so far. And when I used to do neuropsych testing at a university hospital,
I would more or less do it with an n of 1 and still get it. (The CVLT was the
instrument.) When I do it in a classroom (usually about 30 students), I use a
list of 15-20 words and pace myself at 1 wpm. I also do the VonRestorff effect,
using the word "orgasm" as the distinctive word--it wakes up the sleepiest of
students to hear orgasm mixed in with vegetables, utensils, and other assorted
items.
