Yes, you can buy the text at the end of the semester. You get credit from the rental fee towards the book.
If the book is at the end of the rental cycle and a new book has been adopted then the books are sold at an incredibly cheap price. I have purchased some introductory textbooks (physics, geography..) for $1 each for my children to use as reference books.
