Hi Jean-Marc-

I don't have access to my files right now so I'm going on memory, but I
believe that there was a study published in either Science or Nature that
traced the lowering of the age of menarche in Norway to the onset of rural
electrification. The authors' contention was that the increased exposure
to light was the primary agent. I'll try to provide a source when I'm
back on campus tomorrow. I also keep hearing the "cattle & hormones"
hypothesis from students but I've never seen a study that confirms it. I
suspect that it's another urban legend in the making.

All the best,

-Don.
