Stephen,
Yes, there is something screwy going on - incompatibility of two different software packages. I have been told by those in charge that it can not be resolved and no more attempts will be made to try to resolve it. So if you retrieve something from the archives, be sure to look at the header information for the correct date it was posted.
Sorry for the inconvenience this has caused but major changes in our computer support structure has lead to a number of unfavorable decisions and there may be more since we just changed our general mailing software (this caused a number of problems with lost mail) and those in charge are discussing changing the software the runs our listservers including TIPS. I have offered my expertise since the person who will be in charge of this has absolutely no experience with listservers (I had to tell the person what they were) but at this point my advice has not been requested in the decision making going on.

I've just spend a fair bit of time in the TIPS archive, trying to locate a post from long long ago for which I only had the date.
Supposedly, TIPS allows searches on the date. But I discovered that to TIPS, all posts were on 2004/09/23.
OK, I'm exaggerating. But there's something very peculiar about the date listings the archive gives for older messages. Recent posts are correctly dated, older ones are wildly inaccurate. If I put in "1996" I get posts from 2005. Even worse, if I put in something like "Little Albert Masson" I get a listing for my own post "Little Albert Meets Freud" dated 2004/09/23. But in actuality, it was sent on Dec 1, 1996 (says so right in the header when retrieved from the archive).
So something screwy's going on. Someone should complain to Bill Southerly.
Bill--about this archive...
Stephen
