I still find it ironically humorous that Sternberg got his early fame for his research/theory on analogies (I believe that he even edited a study guide to the Miller Analogies Test [MAT]), went on to consult with the College Board on the SAT, and the College Board then eliminates the analogies portion of the SAT. I wonder if Sternberg ever discussed the SAT and what changes would be appropriate with Richard Atkinson (of Atkinson & Shiffrin fame, the intro psych text with Hilgard, and president of the University of California system), given that Atkinson was influential in getting changes to the SAT made. I wonder what Sternberg thinks of the following comments made by the chancellor of the UC system at Atkinson's retirement dinner: "Dick Atkinson also understood that he was perhaps the only person in America who could challenge the assumptions of the SAT and lead to its reform. He understood that it would take a distinguished psychometrician and a university leader of stature supported by the weight of the most prestigious and largest university system in the country to launch the challenge. He insisted that the SAT should measure how well students had mastered a curriculum rather than how well they had mastered test-taking skills. And he won the battle. This will be a lasting legacy to American higher education." http://cio.chance.berkeley.edu/chancellor/sp/Atkinson_dinner.htm And now Sternberg moves into administration as a Tufts dean. Hmmmmmmmmm.... > There's an interview in the latest Inside Higher Ed. > http://insidehighered.com/careers/2005/07/18/sternberg The following is an excerpt from the end of the interview: "Tufts prepares future leaders for America and abroad, and leaders need a variety of skills that are not all encompassed in traditional measures of abilities and achievement." Am I alone in drawing the inference that the place he left didn't "prepare future leaders"? ;-) -Mike Palij New York University [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Regards, > -- > Christopher D.
