Annette's message did not give enough information to rule out Medical Students' Disease (MSD). I always warn students about this in my Abnormal Psychology syllabus. Students can believe the symptoms that they learn are related to their own experience, a kind of hypochondriasis. The relation between ADHD and bipolar disorder symptoms could go either way if the student is self-diagnosing. Annette did not say that the student claimed to have been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, only that there was a claim that he/she had it. If not diagnosed by others, perhaps it is MSD.
