The Wikipedia-cited physicist Dr Evan Harris Walker is not only a dubious
source for information about the Einstein/Maric "controversy", his day job
as president of a cancer research organisation seems a bit dodgy as well. I
already noted a 1999 report that the Walker Cancer Research Institute
spends 83% of its donations on fund raising (compared with, e.g., the
Cancer Research Institute that spends 91% of its donations on research). A
Better Business Bureau report for this year (2005) cites the Walker Cancer
Research Institute (also known as National Cancer Research Center) as
follows:

"Despite written BBB Wise Giving Alliance requests in the past year, this
organization either has not responded to Alliance requests for information
or has declined to be evaluated in relation to the Alliance's Standards for
Charity Accountability."

In December 2001 Worth Magazine listed the Walker Cancer Institute among
four charities to avoid: http://www.cancerpage.com/news/article.asp?id=3810

In 1999 the Walker Cancer Institute was listed among "charities you NEVER
want to deal with since about 90% of the monies raised goes to fees and
expenses": http://www.efmoody.com/charity/charitytypes.html

In 1999 Dutchess County Executive News Release cited "seven questionable
charities" - yes, you've guessed it, among them is Walker Cancer Research
Institute (aka National Cancer Research Center):

Apart from claiming on their website that from the "promising research" of
"Dr. Evan Harris Walker and the Center's team of scientists" a cancer cure
is "imminant" [sic], the Walker Cancer Research Institute also claim some
credit for a small decline in cancer rates in the US (prior to 1998):

YOUR HELP link:
http://walkercri.org/your_help/your_help.htm

"During the past decade cancer rates have declined by 0.7%. This is the
first time this statistic has shown a decline. The major cause of this
decline is that people have been taking the steps needed to reduce the
causes of cancer and, in larger numbers than ever, have sought medical help
a the earliest sign of cancer symptoms. This 0.7% decline Corresponds to
the period that we at the WALKER CANCER RESEARCH INSTITUTE, INC. have been
sending our notices to the public at large by means of our direct
mailings-a hundred million notices throughout the country-notices calling
for people to take specific steps to reduce their risk of cancer, notices
to people that other organizations largely ignore. We at the WALKER CANCER
RESEARCH INSTITUTE, INC. believe that we have contributed significantly to
this downturn in the incidence of cancer."

" *These numbers and calculations for cancer incidence reduction refer to
data for 1998 and prior years."

I reckon Dr Evan Harris Walker, physicist and cancer researcher, deserves a
Wikipedia entry for himself.
