Here's someone with a theory (in good egghead, academic fashion) about David Horowitz -- one that comes from Hannah Arendt, of all people -- and to my mind it fits pretty well. The problem is that once you begin to think about Horowitz in this way, you'll begin to see parallels with just about everyone currently on his "side of aisle." Perhaps even more troubling, although you'll have the impression that you now understand the phenomenon better, you'll realize that there's almost nothing you can do about it that doesn't involve (1) potentially massive self-sacrifice or (2) simply keeping one's head down until it passes.
