Riki,
I don't know about shift work but I do know my personal experience. I
live in Israel and when I fly to the US (westward - 7 hours difference), I don't
have any problem adjusting. I usually arrive in the late afternoon (after
being up for about a day and a half because of having to be at the airport at
3:00 on the average). My main problem is just staying up until "regular
bedtime" that first might and then everything straightens itself out. The
real problem is coming back home (flying eastward). That takes me about a
week to sort out - a week of waking up at 3 AM! A quick consultation with
a specialist on sleep disorders resulted in the advice "get as much exposure to
daylight as possible" after returning home. I haven't tried that yet but
I'll try to remember her advice this summer.
