Our current IRB chair--who was also chair before I was chair, so she knows her
stuff really well--plus she's an active researcher in the nursing field--says
that in all 50 states marriage emancipates. Her words: "Yes, a legally married
person in all 50 states is considered emancipated and does not require parental
consent to participate in a research study. She should be considered as an adult
participant."
