David Epstein and I go a long way back on this list, from a time when he was just a fresh-faced kid in graduate school at Princeton.
Just to set the record straight, I was actually at Rutgers. It just seemed as if I must have been at Princeton on account of my dazzling intelligence--a phrase that will not be used in connection with my name after the dazzling blunder I perpetrated last night. As I just wrote in private email to Stephen, I had somehow managed to forget the Al affair. Thus, I took his Stephen's post as a playful attempt to target a TIPster quasi-randomly. So I, y'know, joined the fun. Then Stephen emailed me to express bafflement. And then I looked at the TIPS archives and remembered the relevant history. I remain utterly mortified.
