As one of those rare people on this list who on occasion defends Michael, I suppose I'd be better advised to just keep out of this. But I don't see the need for such indignation from Marc. On the one hand, as Jim Clark just noted, it's an interesting item with an apparently surprising (not to mention encouraging) result (rednecks don't hate Arabs as much as they're reputed to), and it could be useful for discussion in the classroom. Just because it's not science doesn't make it ineligible. We often discuss stuff here that comes from the news. On the other hand, Michael's post has a significant new development which deserves recognition. He said: > > Ironically,it is the Arabs/Moslems who have displayed > > intolerance for other religions nd cultures. I believe this represents the first occasion on which we've heard a criticism from Michael of a non-Eurocentric mode of thought. We must be making progress. As I've said before, I think we get some of our most lively discussions out of Michael's provocative posts (you could check the archives). Yet I have to agree that he could be more helpful in providing us with his source for the news items with which he agitates us. (and I fearfully await the howls of outrage for linking NASCAR with rednecks) Stephen ----------------------------------------------------------------- Stephen L.
