Joan and Jim;
Prohibitions against sex do not work in the human world. In looking at
our recent history prohibitions against same sex relations. Technically
they were still illegal in many states (Texas in particular) unit the
recent Lawrence v. Texas decision. Add to that the previous social
problems one could have faced; yet same sex coupling persisted. Until
the 1966 Loving decision, interracial marriage was still illegal in some
states. Add to that the threats to personal life or even more during
the colonial days there were ordinances that said any child born of and
interracial union even if both parents were free would be a slave; yet
interracial couplings still occurred.
The drive for sex cannot be legislated away. In other countries where
the penalty of death looms for those who violate sex taboo's the
violations still occur. Even trying to legislate sex to married couples
doesn't work. How many congressmen and women were shown to have not
just extramarital sex but offspring from these unions (think Strom
Thurman). In the grand scheme what two people do with each other is
nobody else's business. It is up to them to be responsible for what
results from their interactions but it is their responsibility because
in this case only they have the ability to respond.
And oh, yes when it's done right, sex is fun (even when done wrong it's
not so bad).
But that's just my opinion...or is it?
