Or, perhaps, his ox has somehow been gored. I am always surprised that people 
are surprised when an ideologue takes a stance in opposition to their apparent 
ideology. Has social psych taught us nothing about the importance of the 
situation? And we don't need to look any further than the mirror for examples.

How extraordinarily conservative of Prof. Fish, who I would have
expected to tow the standard pomo line about every sort of speech being
"political" and, thus, any attempt to distinguish "political" from
"academic" speech is, in itself, a highly political act.

Perhaps I have misjudged him (or perhaps he has moderated his message).
