From another listserv I learned about two websites that have to do with
body image. The first is a g!rlpower website that shows a magazine
cover and allows you to click to see how it was retouched. Note - once
the site comes up wait for a button that flashes that you need to click.
The website is http://demo.fb.se/e/girlpower/retouch/retouch/. It is a
project sponsored by the Swedish government; and while the cover is in
English, the explanation page is in Swedish. Just a warning. It would
be a powerful tool to show how impossible it is to be like a magazine
cover model.
The second site is a blog for women to discuss the changes in their
bodies during and after pregancy. It's called
http://shapeofamother.blogspot.com/ and contains words and pictures from
women commenting on their bodies during pregnancy and after delivery.
I'm not sure I would use it in a class but there are poignant tales of
the effects of poor body image.
