Thanks for this info. I'm new to the listserv, so a discussion about using
the Summers situation as an opportunity to teach about gender differences,
nature vs. nurture, statistics, testing, etc. has probably already been
discussed. I have students read the transcript of Summers's remarks and
make their own interpretation and also have them integrate this with what
our text says about cogntitive gender differences as well as Spelke's
(also from Harvard) recent American Psychologist article (December 2005).
I also recently came across this website that has a debate between Spelke
and Pinker about the same issues:
