After years of being a 2 person department, we have finally been authorized to advertise for a 3rd person to add to our department.
We seek a peculiar person who wants to work in a small college community, and can comfortably affirm the doctrinal position of the college and who is, of course, an excellent teacher and scholar, and can be expected to become chairperson. Covenant College Officially, the advertisement for our position is: Psychology 2007 Covenant College, an agency of the Presbyterian Church in America and a Christian liberal arts college in the Reformed and Presbyterian tradition, invites applications for a faculty position in psychology, beginning July 1, 2007, who can expect to become Chair of the Department and head the department in coming years. Covenant College is a residential liberal arts college located on Lookout Mountain, Georgia with a student body of just under 1,000. The college sits on the highest point of Lookout Mountain, with views in all directions. The nearest city is Chattanooga, Tennessee, which has become a family destination tourist city with its aquarium, IMAX theater, Discovery Museum, Walnut street walking bridge, 10 miles of river walk and a reclaimed public river front. It is also centrally located, being approximately 100 miles from Nashville, Knoxville, Atlanta and Birmingham. It enjoys four seasons, with generally mild winters. The Psychology department is located in the Mills Hall Science Building and presently has 2 full time faculty members with additional courses offered by adjunct faculty. One member is a general experimentalist, and the other is a licensed clinical psychologist. There are approximately 40-50 psychology majors and an active chapter of Psi Chi. Our search is for an excellent teacher and leader, who values working alongside students in informal settings and with colleagues at the college. Although teaching and interaction with students is a priority, research and scholarship is encouraged and supported. Specialization is open; however, a candidate with expertise in Industrial-Organizational, Cognitive-Neuropsychology, or Social-Developmental will be seen to complement the present faculty. The candidate will likely teach Introductory Psychology and other lower division courses in addition to upper division specialty courses. Successful candidates will possess an earned doctorate (ABD considered), from a regionally accredited institution and a commitment to a reformed world and life view.
