The Tower of Hanoi result has not held up under replication. See-

H. M. revisits the Tower of Hanoi Puzzle. Xu, Yaoda; Corkin, Suzanne; Neuropsychology, Vol 15(1), Jan 2001. pp. 69-79.

The suggestion is that there was guiding in the original experiment.

I don't know that he has learned to play golf. But I do recall reading a study (sorry I don't recall the citation) that described his intact procedural memory. He gets more and more efficient at solving the Tower of Hanoi problem but has no recollection of ever working on it previously.
There was a story in the Harford (CT) newspaper a few years ago about H.M. (He currently
resides in a nursing home there.) for the most part, H.M. has been shielded from
"celebrity" press coverage and researchers have kept his private life private.

Subject: [tips] Q re HM
I cross-posted this to psychteach but expect an earlier answer here.

I have heard that HM has learned to play golf but has no conscious awareness of it. Is this a true anecdote or what Susan Clancy calls an "Irish Fact"--something that should be but isn't. Does anyone on the list know?

Thanks

Annette
