The placePlaceTypeCollege of PlaceNameProfessional Studies seeks innovative faculty who are committed to excellence in teaching and learning, community service, and scholarship. The College, one of four academic colleges on campus, houses the PlaceTypeSchool of PlaceNameEducation; the Health, Human Services, and Public Policy Department; and the placePlaceTypeSchool of PlaceNameBusiness. The Human Development program is currently housed in the Liberal Studies Department and is likely to become a major soon. The Human Development program and minor is an interdisciplinary program providing learning opportunities for students focusing on human developmental growth and change from infancy through older adulthood. The curriculum incorporates physical, cognitive, cultural, socioemotional, and psychological development with various contexts (i.e., multicultural, gender issues, special needs, historical, and socioeconomic status). The target student audience for the program and minor are those undergraduates intending to pursue preschool education, elementary education, social services, and elder care among other fields. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to, the following: Responsibilities include teaching and designing undergraduate Human Development coursework focusing on Infancy and Early Childhood and Research Methods. Other projected course assignments are likely to be Major ProSeminar (in Human Development or Liberal Studies), Senior Capstone (in Human Development or Liberal Studies), Service Learning, and other courses in the area of expertise; developing curricula (for on site and online delivery) and advising materials; fostering a strong relationship with the campus Child Development Center and community college programs; advising undergraduate students and guiding the development of their academic learning plans; participating in the development of an outcomes-based approach to curriculum design; writing and contributing to scholarly work; collaborating on the support of service-learning experiences; acting as a liaison between the department and community partners; seeking grants or other sources of funding to support innovative university projects, and serving on university, college, and department committees. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: · Ability to incorporate multiculturalism and social justice themes into curricula. · Interest in integrating innovative technology into pedagogy · Interdisciplinary focus to curricula development · Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplinary lines · Ability to create, oversee, and manage research with and by students. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: · Earned doctorate in Human Development, Child Development, Early Childhood Development, Education or a related field (ABD will be considered). · University teaching experience at or equivalent to at least the assistant rank; · Evidence of excellence in teaching; · Evidence of research potential; · Sensitivity to and demonstrated interest in, teaching students from nontraditional and ethnically diverse backgrounds; · Demonstrated ability to integrate intellectual and experiential learning through service learning methodology in field settings. SPECIALIZED SKILLS REQUIRED: Demonstrated ability to address the essential functions associated with this position including the knowledge and abilities identified above. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Proficiency in a second language and experience in bilingual or multilingual contexts. Technological expertise; experience and interest in innovative education; experience implementing service learning projects; a working understanding of, or equivalent experience in the diverse communities which comprise the Monterey Bay and tri-county region. Highly desirable: Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the CSUMB Vision Statement and the core values of mutual respect, collaboration and service orientation, multiculturalism and diversity, community service and institutional excellence. Experience working with a diverse and multicultural population and performing community services; demonstrated technical literacy.
