Hi It is unfortunate that scientists feel compelled to make value judgments when none are necessarily implied by their work. This article, especially for some of the findings reported, writes as though not being able to ignore distractions is a BAD thing (i.e., it is good to attend to more than one thing at once). But one could make exactly the opposite argument; that is, it is good to be able to ignore distractions and focus on the primary task. Indeed, some developmental findings demonstrate that young children have better memories for to-be-ignored material than do older children, who are better at focusing their attention on the relevant. But I haven't yet seen anyone arguing that young children are therefore "better processors of information" than older children, which would be analogous to what is being done in this article.
