I'm being a bad scholar here, but I do know that the "envelope" of the
word is critical for reading.  E.g., we read ALL UPPER-CASE TEXT MUCH
MORE SLOWLY than we read upper- and lower-case text.

I can't think of the research, though, and actually should be doing
something other than this right now!
