I just want to say "Thank you!" to everyone who replied to my post.
There were some great additional examples mentioned in addition to
voting for your favorites.

In case anyone was concerned, I am not trying to beat students over the
head or vilify them with these statements. This list is covered in the
Orientation to Psychology class that Psych majors take in their first
semester. I treat this as a social cognition exercise. I ask students to
read through the list of things professors hate to hear and ask them to
try to identify the subtext the professor is hearing that is so annoying
to them. I hope that this exercise will give the students a chance to
reflect on how their statements may sound to others. I also mention that
I do not want any of them to think that we don't want to talk to them. I
bring these up only as a way to help them not say something that may
work against their interests.

I should also admit, to those of you who may have read my initial
message as being somewhat cryptic with all that talk about my 3:00 class
and such, that that message was sent to the list by accident. I intended
only for the colleagues with whom I team teach the class to respond.
However, it was the happiest mistake I have made in some time and
certainly the most productive accidental message that I (or anyone?) has
sent to the list for some time. Thanks for all your responses. I will be
able to use them when we go over the student's responses to these items.
Thanks,

Rick

Here is one I really hate:

"I worked so hard on this assignment! I don't understand why I got such

a low grade!"

(I want to tell them that only their mom cares about how hard they
worked on something, that time in does not mean quality out, that the
client in a "real world" job won't care about how hard they worked on
something......but I feel completely stymied by this one!)
