Don't forget to check with your local public library. The library where my wife used to work had access to several academic databases via a system setup by the state. Here's a link to a list of the databases available via the TexShare system, which includes MedLine, Psychology & Behavioral Sciences Collection, Academic Search Premier, ERIC, and others: http://www.texshare.edu/programs/academicdb/describedbs.html

The main sources missing from these databases tends to full text of APA articles, though the APA articles with abstracts are there so you can figure out if they are worth going after through something like interlibrary loan. The database access is included with membership to the library, which in many cases is free if you live within a given area or for a small fee if outside of that area.

I'm not sure if a similar service would be available in your area, but it is probably worth looking into...

hope this helps

Hi

I've raised this issue in the past but have still not been able to resolve it and I'm hoping someone out there can help. I'm working from home and currently unaffiliated with a university. I was granted an extension by UCLA to continue using my database password to do research, but this extension is expiring at the end of the year and as I'm no longer at UCLA I can't renew it. I've been associated with UCLA for my entire research career and have no idea how unaffiliated researchers who do not live near a good university library (or are homebound for other reasons, such as disability) do their research--that is, gain access to full-texts of online research articles from professional journals.

Are there commercially-run databases out there which you can subscribe to and will license articles to you? I would be most grateful for any help anyone out there can offer.
