Do tipsters know of any differences between research-heavy institutions and other colleges regarding undergrad participation in research? My understanding is that such participation should be voluntary, alternative options should be provided, etc. Some institutions or departments however, may require such participation and I am wondering about the reasons and problems of such policies.
