If the role of a university is only to teach students, vi a the
classroom,then
remove all ancillary programs like the recreation center,
student services programs, etc.

See how well students thrive then.

Are you asking because you are curious about others' opinions, or because
you don't understand the problems students are facing today? If it's the
latter, I highly recommend you locate the appropriate campus personnel and
spend some time familiarizing yourself with the research on today's
college students.

They come with more baggage than they used to.

If someone doesn't know that, they better.  Faculty are often very helpful
in getting students connected with appropriate mental health providers,
because obviously a student's behavior is going to be observed by the
faculty before the provider.

But when faculty are uninformed, or indifferent, they might wind up being
held accountable.

I am thinking back to my days in college where a professor laughed off a
student's essay about "killing people."

No one was laughing a few days later when the student actually did it.
