which leads me to wonder why he left off his list the two most 
influential studies ever produced in psychology:

Pavlov, I. (1927). Conditioned Reflexes.

Skinner, B. (1938). The Behavior of Organisms.

OK, make that three. Add Piaget (say his 1928 "The Child's Conception of 
the World")  to that list. 

and take that loony Freud off.
