I was just perusing through my personal library and I came across Jacobson's You must relax. Is Jacobson's work the definitive on differential and progressive relaxation? The technique of systematic desentization utilizes some of the methods.I was indeed surprised to read that one should not contract muscles prior to relaxing the muscles. This would seem to contradict how SD should be carried out.If I underestand Jacobson correctly all that is needed is for one to recognize the tenseness in different areas of the body and gradually relax those specific areas. Btw,did Wolpe ever meet Jacobson? Send me something.
