Responding to my post "Education Research by Conservative Think Tanks" [Hake (2007)], ASU's Rebecca Barber has informed me of the existence of the "Think Tank Review Project" <http://epsl.asu.edu/epru/thinktankreview.htm>.

"The Think Tank Review Project provides the public, policy makers, and the press with timely, academically sound reviews of selected think-tank publications. The project is a collaborative effort of the Education Policy Research Unit (EPRU . . . . [<http://epsl.asu.edu/epru/ >]. . . . .) at Arizona State University and the Education and the Public Interest Center (EPIC . . . . [<http://education.colorado.edu/epic/ >]. . . . .) at the University of Colorado."

Think Tank reviews for 2007 are at <http://epsl.asu.edu/epru/epru_2007_thinktankreview.htm>.

For recent "Bunkum Awards in Education" see <http://epsl.asu.edu/epru/epru_2006_bunkum.htm>.

Preceding the enumeration of awards is an article "Truthiness in Education" [Weiner & Molnar (2007)], who write [bracketed by lines "W&M-W&M-W&M-. . . . .":
W&M-W&M-W&M-W&M-W&M-W&M-W&M-W&M-W&M
At a time when America's education policymakers have nominally embraced the idea of tying school reform to "scientifically based research," many of the nation's most influential reports are little more than junk science. A hodgepodge of private "think tanks" at both the state and national levels wield significant and very often undeserved influence in policy discussions by cranking out an array of well-funded and slickly produced-yet ideologically driven-research.

Often written by people with little discernible expertise and invariably not subjected to peer review, these reports consistently end with a findings section that supports the ideological preferences of the research sponsor.
