Haven't finished the article so not sure if the study addresses another very interesting aspect and that is how many words do women address to other women versus men and vice versa. My admittedly anecdotal observations strongly support that men are far more likely to engage in conversation with other men versus women on "serious" topics--sometimes even on this listserv! (Gasp! Could it be??!!) And women also show gender bias toward other women though suspect the motive is somewhat different.
