Marc- It has been a couple of years since I used Sniffy. But the results were
primarily positive- it worked well for the students and I had no problems using
it on a smart-board in classes for in class demos.

The student's had primarily positive experiences. There were some complications
reported (like, "I can't get him bar press trained!") but I found them to be
quite consistent with failures of the students to understand the concepts
rather than "stupid rat" syndrome which was present in some early versions. Of
course, any luck you have will be interactive with your student's level of
computer experience (so you may want to provide at least one or two "help
sessions" early in the exercises for the computer anxious, etc), with your
operating systems (I can't vouch for VISTA or MAC attempts but XP and Windows
2000 worked well), and with your campus network set-ups and security settings
etc. (If you haven't done so already benchmarking and testing the program in
your lab and on a variety of computer set-ups, speeds, memory configurations,
etc. will always help as with any software in class- depending on your time and
expertise of course).

Subject: [tips] Sniffy!

Hi, All --

This semester in my Learning class I've decided to use Sniffy, the
Virtual Rat in lieu of having each student have a rat. I'll still have
a real rat for group things (and so that they can see that yes, this
"learning" stuff really happens), but I wanted to use Sniffy as the
principal source of exercises and data for lab reports.

I'm curious if any of you has used Sniffy, and if so, whether you'd be
willing to share something about how you've used him (it).

Thanks!

m
