We have Darwin Day at our school as well. Several years ago I did a
presentation on Darwin's baby biography of his son "Doddy". I read excerpts
and showed students photographs of the family. It led to interesting
discussions of the potential for bias when using something like this for
scientific observations. The diary is also filled with wonderful leaps - from
observing a young child with a pickle stained pinafore to indicating that the
child was obviously practicing "carefully planned deceit" :). I also used
this to lead into a discussion of the roots of child development research.
