A big thank you to Linda Woolf and John McManus, for helping me find the documentary. It's called "Middle Sexes" and is an HBO documentary. It will be shown again in the middle of October, but I'm buying my own copy.
While it is about transgendered individuals, there is a large segment about homophobia, and they also describe the well-known study (and interview one of the authors) at the University of Georgia on young males identified as homophobes who had a little more than passing interest in gay videos.
