I hope your dept. chair has backbone. I get many students who have had previous courses employing creative grading and tests that reward superficial work. Many pass without knowing the material at a college level. They tell me they never really had to crack the book open except maybe the night before the exam. They are used to a lot of participation credit and so-called extra credit work if they did not do well. I understand the challenges given they lack traditional reading and note-taking skills, but many have no notes and do not read. Sorry for the rant. I really just wanted to concur with Beth for Jim to stick to the evidence. Gary Gerald L.
