First, I'd like to apologize for not properly trimming my response to Chris earlier. Sorry if it caused anyone any problems.

Anyone know which was the first US experimental psychology >laboratory? (My guess would be Harvard.) According to Hilgard's (1987) Psychology in America, the first experimental psychology lab was founded in 1883 by G. Stanley Hall at Johns Hopkins (fans of William James may claim that his demonstration lab has priority; Hilgard lists the founding of Hardvard's experimental psychology lab in 1891 by Hugo Munsterberg). Hilgard's Table 1-1 (p32-34) lists the establishment of psychological laboratories in the U.S. from 1883 to 1900 by founder, the institution and date of founder's degree, and founder's dissertation supervisors (Hilgard lists William James and H.P. Bowditch as Hall's advisors and that Hall got his degree at Harvard in 1878). If newer scholorship has revised this info, I'd appreciate hearing about it. -Mike Palij New York University [EMAIL PROTECTED] --- To make changes to your subscription contact: Bill Southerly ([EMAIL PROTECTED])
