In the U.S,people are conditioned very early in life to seek solutions by 
taking a pill.I suspect this conditioning becomes functionally autonomous.But I 
also suspect the processes associated with this motive such as holding the 
pill,getting a glass of water,gulping down the pill are critical variables that 
should not be ignored in assessing not only placebo effectc but also 
prescription drug effects.In other words,I feel thqt the ritual of pill taking 
behavior could be critical.I suspect that there are fractional
anticipatory responses( Clark Hull) and frctional anticipatory effects (Michael 
Sylvester) factors contributing to that sense of wellness.It seems as if  the 
ritual is the message.(I borrowed this from Desmond Morris "ritualized contact).
Btw,there was an experimental procedure titled Sham operation that included 
going through operation procedures except for the actual cutting up.
