Hey, Miguel -- Susan Blackmore's _Consciousness_ is a survey of all manner of consciousness studies; I'd recommend having a copy handy, if for no other reason that the references she's got in it. There are a number of chapters specifically spent on altered states (drugs, meditation, and like that), aside from some generally useful stuff on the current state of how we talk about consciousness.
