Out of insatiable curiosity, I checked it for the iceberg. Sure enough, 
it's there, unabashedly directly attributed to Freud ("Like an iceberg 
(Freud said) nine-tenths of the psyche is invisible to us, submerged in 
the unconscious."). Of course, Dewey is far from alone in perpetuating 
this error. Note also a fairly restrained (compared to some) diagram of 
what this iceberg looks like.

Interestingly, Dewey attributes the source of Freud's id to one Georg 
Groddick in his "The Book of It", a claim I haven't seen before. 
Astoundingly, Wikipedia claims that Freud, well-known for anal-
retentiveness where credit is concerned,  actually himself credited 
Groddick for this insight.  Doubtless a Freud scholar, if only we had one 
on this list, would be able to comment.
