I was wondering what tipsters have seen as far as interesting/strange/fun Psych
Club t-shirt logos or designs. I often lecture about the general
misconceptions the public has about psychology; that psychologists are all
therapists, that Freud is the father of Psych, etc. As I was going over such
misconceptions, I noticed students in my class with Psych Club t-shirts that
tend to promote such misconceptions. One shirt has some reference to id and
egos, and another said something about psychologists do it better on the couch.
I was a bit flummoxed, but just laughed it off.
I began to wonder....I was wondering what kinds of images, stereotypes,
or pop-psych ideas about psychology are promoted in other psych departments.
Could there be sexy or catchy t-shirt ideas that might better represent
psychology? The t-shirt isn't for educating the campus community but
represents a campus Club's identity. Such ideas remain popular among our
students---whether about Dr. Phil, Freud, or associating psych with clinical
work. Perhaps such items as t-shirts would not sell unless they fit with
pop-culture ideas? Gary
