Tim, it ain't that simple. There is throughout human history a micro-macro
relationship
between man and the universe. It Greeks put it this way: Man is the universe
made small.
So, as we perceive the structure and operation of the universe and all within
it, so we
perceive the structure of human society and of man. And, we emulate that
perception in
the fabric of our society and culture. As our understanding changes, we
commensurately,
sometimes begrudgingly and sometimes resist, reweave that fabric. Science
comes into that
equation at various times in various ways to various extent and, therefore,
influences
both how we see the universe, each other, and ourselves. The destruction of
the religious
unity in the 16th century paved the way for science to be a contending and
independent
rather a subservient explanation and description of the universe. That was
what the
Scientific Revolution was all about. Now, I'll just say that the misuse or the
application of scientific discoveries and conclusions was one of the
justifications of
what was to happen in the Holocaust. Historically that cannot be denied. But,
as Jim
Clark rightly said, that doesn't impugn the truth of evolution and give any
scientific
credence to ID.

Make it a good day.
