Not that I know of, although I would not take that as any evidence that similar 
attitudes are not prevalent among politicians here.  There is at present 
debates about a proposal for a government Minister (Culture I think?) to be 
able to veto grants to cultural organizations (e.g., for making movies) that 
might offend Canadian sensibilities.  And this could be done even after the 
grants have been awarded and spent.  Various groups have protested as one might 
imagine.  Although perhaps unlikely, one could imagine the Minister for 
Industry (under which granting agencies fall I believe) wanting to veto certain 
research projects.
