I've never like the term and don't ever use it.
I just talk about the memory for intense events being intense :-)

Is it still necessary to use the term "flashbulb memory"? It was probably 
appropriate when cameras used bulbs but in this digital age our impressive 
memories are probably more digitalized. How about "digitalized flash memory"?
