I don't know about the US but here in Canada if you want to be a high school
teacher you must have taken what are called 'teachable subjects' (you must take
3 I think), such as math, music, physed.
Now to the rub. Social science is considered a teachable subject but Psychology
is not! This has been the case for a long time and still is apparently.
What gives? Is this some kind of institutional prejudice?
They actually teach some psych at the high-school level and yet it is not a
'teachable subject'
I can't imagine what disqualifies psych but not social science.
Anyone have a clue? Is it the same in the States or is this just a Canadian
issue?
Perhaps the APA or CPA should be lobbying to change this.
