Thank you, Nina ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGY Sacred Heart University, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Department of Psychology invite applications for an anticipated tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in September, 2009. We are seeking someone with strong research/scholarship and teaching experience in the area of Developmental Psychology. Candidates should possess a willingness and ability to teach undergraduate courses in Introductory Psychology, Research Design and Analysis, Developmental Psychology [Child, Adolescent, Adult, Lifespan], and courses in their specific areas of specialization. In addition, successful candidates will value the University’s Catholic identity, tradition, and spirit, and strong preference will be given to candidates who are willing and able to teach courses in the University’s newly developed Core Curriculum. Specifically, several Psychology faculty each semester will be asked to teach sections of a Common Core course entitled The Human Journey: The Individual and Society. The Common Core engages students in a multidisciplinary understanding of the arts and sciences and the Catholic intellectual tradition, considering four central and enduring questions of human life: What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to live a life of meaning and purpose? What does it mean to understand and appreciate the natural world? And what does it means to forge a more just society for the common good? The sections taught by Psychology faculty will emphasize what the discipline of Psychology can contribute to the discussion of these questions. A Ph.D. in Psychology is strongly preferred, although advanced ABD candidates will be considered if degree is completed by the start of this appointment. Candidates will be expected to advise undergraduate majors, and must also possess a strong commitment to undergraduate education and to the integration of teaching and research. Candidates should also support Sacred Heart University’s commitment to university service, community service, and the intellectual and ethical development of all students.
