ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PSYCHOLOGY
Sacred Heart University, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the Department
of Psychology invite applications for an anticipated tenure-track position at
the Assistant Professor level to begin in September, 2009.

We are seeking someone with strong research/scholarship and teaching experience
in the area of Developmental Psychology. Candidates should possess a
willingness and ability to teach undergraduate courses in Introductory
Psychology, Research Design and Analysis, Developmental Psychology [Child,
Adolescent, Adult, Lifespan], and courses in their specific areas of
specialization. In addition, successful candidates will value the University’s
Catholic identity, tradition, and spirit, and strong preference will be given
to candidates who are willing and able to teach courses in the University’s
newly developed Core Curriculum. Specifically, several Psychology faculty each
semester will be asked to teach sections of a Common Core course entitled The
Human Journey: The Individual and Society. The Common Core engages students in
a multidisciplinary understanding of the arts and sciences and the Catholic
intellectual tradition, considering four central and enduring questions of
human life: What does it mean to be human? What does it mean to live a life of
meaning and purpose? What does it mean to understand and appreciate the natural
world? And what does it means to forge a more just society for the common good?
The sections taught by Psychology faculty will emphasize what the discipline
of Psychology can contribute to the discussion of these questions.

A Ph.D. in Psychology is strongly preferred, although advanced ABD candidates
will be considered if degree is completed by the start of this appointment.
Candidates will be expected to advise undergraduate majors, and must also
possess a strong commitment to undergraduate education and to the integration
of teaching and research. Candidates should also support Sacred Heart
University’s commitment to university service, community service, and the
intellectual and ethical development of all students.

Sacred Heart University is a dynamic, independent, coeducational institution of
Catholic higher education that is committed to academic excellence and to the
Catholic intellectual and liberal arts traditions. Sacred Heart University is
an EOE/AA employer. Members of underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.
Applications must include: curriculum vitae, a letter of application, a
statement describing teaching philosophy, a statement describing past and
future research interests, three letters of reference, and official graduate
transcripts. Electronic submissions are preferred; please submit them to
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Or, you may send all materials to Dr. Mindy Miserendino,
Chair, Department of Psychology, Sacred Heart University, 5151 Park Avenue,
Fairfield, CT 06825-1000.

Review of applications will begin immediately, but applications will be
accepted until the position is filled.
