All this discussion about the effectiveness of psychoanalytic therapy fails to analyze the key assumption of psychoanalytic therapy that throigh "insight" changes will emanate. So called intensive sessions may be nothing more than being put in a non-threatening relaxed state which allows one to regain an emotional composure which can be falsejy attributed to cognitive restructuring processes. The presumed insight factor may be a result of an interdependent emotive and cognitive interactions. We should not forget that just being in a therapeutic session could be healing in itself.
