Shoot, I discovered that in grad school. I learned more about
stereopsis over tequila than I learned in any class...

No that that the tequila induced diplopia; my roommate and I talked
about our dissertations (which were both studied stereo) nonstop. (But
there was this one aquavit-induced diplopic incident, but that's for
another time...)

We had no other lives.

This, I am sad to say, continues. My research on stereopsis may have
waned, but my lack of life persists....

Interesting piece on teachers drinking together after school.

        My favorite passage:
"At first I sought to institute a no-talking-about-school
policy, figuring that alcohol would help us return to our normal selves.
Then I realized that we no longer had normal selves. Unlike most other
professions, this one drains you completely, refilling you with its own
insular, infinite concerns. The intensity may ebb and flow, but it never
disappears."
